Consumers are become increasingly interested in pork,
research has shown.
Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) has found that the
traditional view of the meat as boring and uninspiring
is changing as people now see it as a healthy, versatile
option.
Commenting on the report QMS head of marketing Laurent
Vernet said its figures represent a significant turn
around in recent years.
He added: "Research has shown a 15 per cent rise in
health as the main reason for choosing a meal and if
even some of these customers are aware of the health
benefits of eating fresh pork it could be a great
support to the hard-pressed pig industry."
Of those surveyed, 93 per cent agreed with the statement
"pork is good for you", while 97 per cent believe it is
a versatile meat to cook with.
Last month QMS reported that lamb was becoming
increasingly popular in Scotland, with sales increasing
by 11 per cent over the year.
