New products and ideas by British manufacturers have
been boosting their success in export markets, it has
been stated.
According to the editor of Food Manufacture, Rick
Pendrous, the UK has a well-developed food sector that
is progressively looking towards innovation to increase
its success rate.
"Increasingly with the demands that are put on domestic
manufacturers from the retailers, [manufacturers] are
coming up with bright new ideas and they are being
picked up by the export market, especially in the
growing areas of health and wellbeing," he said.
The UK market has seen triumph in bakery goods, health
and wellbeing products, and also with whisky, Mr
Pendrous remarked.
Currently, he suggested that chilled ready meals and
own-label ready meals categories are the focus of food
innovators.
Already this week, Nutrition Point told Talking Retail
that it is to launch a new range of frozen meals, which
contain no gluten and are therefore suitable for
coeliacs.
