The new chair of London Food has promised to address
problems in the capital's supply chain.
Mayor Boris Johnson today appointed former newspaper
editor Rosie Boycott as his latest "food champion",
saying she would work to improve the products eaten in
London.
Ms Boycott described the current food delivery system as
damaging to the environment as well as being wasteful.
"It simply does not need to be the case that Londoners
cannot have access to locally produced, top-quality
food, but we have to have a radical rethink to find ways
of making this happen," she remarked.
Ms Boycott, who will not be paid, currently runs a farm
in Somerset producing organic goods.
The Waste Resources & Action Programme recently
announced that the food and drink manufacturing industry
had successfully halted a growth in packaging waste and
would now work towards reducing it over the next two
years.
