Shoppers are continuing to flock to discount
supermarkets as food prices rise, according to TNS
Worldpanel.
Its grocery market share figures for the 12 weeks to 15
June found Aldi and Lidl clocked up year-on-year sales
growth of 21% and 13% respectively, while Aldi took a
record 2.9% share of the grocery market.
Frozen food discounters also performed well, with
Iceland recording year-on-year sales growth of 12.4%,
Farmfoods growth of 13.4% and other freezer centres
growth of 9.3%.
The best-performing big four grocery retailer was once
again Morrisons, up 8.1%, with Sainsbury's the worst, up
4.3%.
