NEWS: DAIRY GOOD FOR BONES, RESEARCH FINDS (Source: FDIN)

New research into dairy foods has confirmed that they are good for the bones.

Scientists at Boston University School of Medicine conducted a study into its effects over 12 years, Food Ingredients First reports.

At the beginning of the research, 106 families with children between the ages of three and five were asked to keep food diaries.

After 12 years these were analysed and the results, which will be published in the Journal of Pediatrics, revealed that those children consuming two or more dairy servings every day had better bone health.

This included both higher bone density and higher levels of bone mineral content.

One of the researchers, Dr Lynn Moore, was quoted as saying: "Dairy is a key source of proteins, calcium and other micronutrients including phosphorus and vitamin D."

A range of frozen desserts with added nutritional benefits has recently been developed by dairy company Turkey Hill.
