Classic dinnertime favourites have been replaced by
Italian food as the most popular dishes on UK tables,
according to a poll by the Potato Council.
More than a quarter of adults taking part in the study
said Italian was their favourite type of food, while
more than 80% of respondents said they thought classic
British dinners such as hot pots and toad in the hole
were disappearing from UK mealtimes.
The top 10 most popular foods in the poll include
spaghetti Bolognese at three, pizza at four, lasagne at
six and pasta bakes at nine.
However, the traditional roast dinner remains the UK?s
favourite meal, the poll finds.
The Potato Council?s Kathryn Race told The Daily
Telegraph: "It's a shame to see that some of our
country's best loved foods are no longer seen on UK
dinner tables - they are our heritage and something we
need to keep.?
